The incident occurred during a general body meeting for the upcoming students’ union polls, with videos circulating online depicting the mayhem inside the university campus.

The altercation originated from a dispute over the selection of election committee members at the School of Languages. Students from both factions engaged in physical altercations, as seen in the videos. One disturbing clip shows a student bleeding from his head, while another captures an individual hurling a bicycle at a group of students. Some injured students were reportedly admitted to Safdarjung Hospital, according to a JNU official.

As of now, the university administration has not released an official statement on the incident. Both student groups involved, however, have traded blame for the clashes. The police, on the other hand, state that no complaints have been filed in connection with the incident.

The Left-affiliated Democratic Students’ Federation (DSF) and All India Students Association (AISA) accused ABVP members of disrupting the meeting. They claimed that casteist and sexist slurs were used to threaten students and even alleged heckling of security guards.

In response, AISA issued a statement demanding accountability, stating, ” The act of vandalism and violence perpetrated by individuals affiliated with the ABVP must be acknowledged by the VC office. The faces of those involved are clearly visible in the videos circulating online. It is suggested that these perpetrators be held accountable and subject to appropriate legal actions for their involvement in unleashing such unprecedented violence.”

The clash highlights the escalating tensions within JNU ahead of the student union polls, raising concerns about the need for prompt and decisive action to maintain a peaceful academic environment.

The prime minister also introduced the ‘Cyber Tehsil’ project, which aims to modernize how government services are delivered in the state.

The ‘Cyber Tehsil’ project, covering all 55 districts of Madhya Pradesh, is designed to streamline government services by ensuring paperless, faceless, end-to-end online processing of mutation of sale-purchase and record correction in revenue records. This initiative is expected to enhance efficiency and transparency in governance.

During the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Modi expressed his condolences for the Dindori road mishap and assured all possible efforts for those injured in the accident. He also highlighted the ongoing redevelopment work on more than 30 railway stations in Madhya Pradesh, emphasizing the BJP-led government’s commitment to development.

India’s Firm Response to Pakistan and Turkey at the UN Human Rights Council https://nacionstory.com/2024/02/29/indias-firm-response-to-pakistan-and-turkey-at-the-un-human-rights-council/ https://nacionstory.com/2024/02/29/indias-firm-response-to-pakistan-and-turkey-at-the-un-human-rights-council/#respond Thu, 29 Feb 2024 09:49:57 +0000 https://nacionstory.com/?p=1837 India has exercised its ‘Right to Reply’ at the 55th Human Rights Council of the United Nations to respond to Pakistan and Turkey’s mention of Jammu and Kashmir. Anupama Singh, India’s First Secretary at the UN Human Rights Council, delivered a strong rebuttal, rejecting Pakistan’s allegations and warning Turkey against making unsolicited comments on India’s internal matters in the future.

In her response to Pakistan, Singh highlighted three ‘reds’ that she claimed Pakistan was “soaked in.” She referred to the red of bloodshed from terrorism sponsored by Pakistan, the red of its debt-riddled national balance sheets, and the red of shame felt by its people for their government’s failure to serve their actual interests.

Singh emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral and inalienable parts of India, and the constitutional measures taken by the Indian government in these Union territories are internal matters. She also pointed out Pakistan’s institutionalized persecution of its minorities and its abysmal human rights record, contrasting it with India’s progress in economic development and social justice.

Singh highlighted incidents of persecution against minorities in Pakistan, including the August 2023 Jaranwala issue where 19 churches were gutted, and 89 Christian houses were burnt down. Singh also condemned Pakistan for hosting and celebrating UNSC-sanctioned terrorists, while discussing India’s pluralistic ethos and democratic credentials.

Regarding Turkey’s support for Pakistan’s comments on Jammu and Kashmir, Singh issued a warning, expressing regret for Turkey’s remarks and hoping that it would refrain from making unsolicited comments on India’s internal matters in the future.

India dismisses Pakistan’s critique of human rights in Jammu and Kashmir at the UN Human Rights Council

India has consistently maintained that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of its territory and that any discussion on the region should be conducted bilaterally between India and Pakistan. The country has also emphasized the need for an atmosphere free of terrorism and hostilities to have normal ties with Pakistan.

The response at the UN Human Rights Council comes at a time when India is facing various financial challenges, including a high depreciation of its currency, inflation, and decreasing forex reserves. Despite these challenges, India remains steadfast in its commitment to defending its interests and promoting peace and stability in the region.

India’s response serves as a reminder of its commitment to defending its interests and promoting peace and stability in the region.

Anant Ambani’s Vantara: A Sanctuary for Rescued Animals https://nacionstory.com/2024/02/29/anant-ambanis-vantara-a-sanctuary-for-rescued-animals/ https://nacionstory.com/2024/02/29/anant-ambanis-vantara-a-sanctuary-for-rescued-animals/#respond Thu, 29 Feb 2024 07:26:34 +0000 https://nacionstory.com/?p=1830 Nestled within the verdant embrace of Reliance’s Jamnagar Refinery Complex in Gujarat, the Vantara ecosystem is a testament to the power of compassion and innovation. This sprawling sanctuary spans 3,000 acres and is home to over 2,000 animals, including 200 rescued elephants, making it one of the largest animal rescue and rehabilitation centers in the world. This initiative, spearheaded by Anant Ambani, director of Reliance Industries and Reliance Foundation, is a beacon of hope for injured, abused, and threatened animals, both in India and abroad.

The Vantara initiative was born from a deeply personal experience for Anant Ambani. He recalls a pivotal moment from his childhood when he and his mother, philanthropist Nita Ambani, encountered a distressed elephant on a sweltering day in Rajasthan. This encounter ignited a lifelong commitment to animal welfare, leading to the establishment of Vantara.

The sanctuary is a haven for a diverse array of species, including large felines like leopards, tigers, lions, and jaguars, as well as herbivores such as deer and reptiles like crocodiles, snakes, and turtles. Each animal is provided with state-of-the-art enclosures and shelters, ensuring their well-being and recovery.

Vantara is not just a sanctuary; it is a symbol of the transformative power of compassion and dedication. The team at Vantara, comprising over 300 professionals, is committed to providing the highest standard of care for the animals. This includes employing Ayurvedic techniques for elephant care, such as hot oil massages and the application of Multani Mitti, a natural clay known for its soothing properties.

The center is also the location of a 25,000 square foot elephant hospital, which is among the largest globally

Beyond its borders, Vantara extends its reach to international rescue missions, responding to calls from zoo authorities in countries like Mexico and Venezuela. These efforts are conducted in strict adherence to legal and regulatory frameworks, both in India and abroad.

The launch of the rescue and rehabilitation center, spanning 650 acres within the 3,000-acre premises, marks a significant milestone in Vantara’s journey. This facility serves as a sanctuary for animals previously confined in circuses or zoos, providing them with a safe and nurturing environment.

Vantara is more than just a sanctuary; it is a symbol of hope and compassion. It stands as a testament to the transformative power of empathy and dedication, offering a lifeline to animals in need. Anant Ambani has expressed,“This isn’t a zoo; it’s a ‘Sevalaya’ (service room). I believe that Shri Ganesh resides in elephants, and the form of Ganesh is that of an elephant. So, I serve elephants with the spirit of honoring Ganesha.”

Vantara is a beacon of hope for animals in distress, providing them with a second chance at life. It is a testament to the power of compassion and dedication, offering a lifeline to animals in need. The name “Vantara” itself, a Hindi word, means ‘star of the forest’, symbolizing the sanctuary’s commitment to the rescue, treatment, care, and rehabilitation of animals in need.

Political Turmoil in Himachal Pradesh as Congress Faces Rebellion and Defections https://nacionstory.com/2024/02/29/political-turmoil-in-himachal-pradesh-as-congress-faces-rebellion-and-defections/ https://nacionstory.com/2024/02/29/political-turmoil-in-himachal-pradesh-as-congress-faces-rebellion-and-defections/#respond Thu, 29 Feb 2024 06:53:29 +0000 https://nacionstory.com/?p=1825 Himachal Pradesh, February 29, 2024 : In a stunning turn of events in Himachal Pradesh, the Congress party is grappling with internal strife and potential government collapse, following the unexpected defeat of its candidate, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, in the recent Rajya Sabha election. Despite having a majority with 40 MLAs and the support of three independent MLAs in the 68-member house, the tie in votes at 34 each led to the victory of Harsh Mahajan after a draw of lots. This setback has intensified the crisis for Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu’s government, raising the specter of its collapse.

Adding to the political turmoil, Vikramaditya Singh resigned from the council of ministers, deepening the existing rift between factions within the Himachal Pradesh Congress. The divide is evident between the supporters of Chief Minister Sukhu and those aligned with Pratibha Singh, the Lok Sabha member of parliament and Vikramaditya’s mother.

The situation took a drastic turn when six Congress MLAs from Himachal Pradesh were disqualified for cross-voting in favor of the BJP during the Rajya Sabha polls. The disqualified MLAs, namely Rajinder Rana, Sudhir Sharma, Inder Dutt Lakhanpal, Devinder Kumar Bhutoo, Ravi Thakur, and Chetanya Sharma, faced consequences for defying the party whip to vote in favor of the government on the Finance Bill.

Inside the assembly, Himachal Pradesh Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania was observed.

The BJP, initially applauding the MLAs for their ‘bravery,’ had welcomed them after they stayed the previous night in BJP-ruled Haryana. However, the disqualified MLAs’ actions have now backfired, causing a setback for the BJP’s hopes of returning to power in Himachal Pradesh.

The disqualification of these MLAs has temporarily closed the chapter on the potential return of the BJP to power through a no-confidence vote. The assembly had also witnessed the suspension of 15 BJP MLAs after the passage of the state Budget. The disqualification adds another layer to the already complex political landscape in Himachal Pradesh, leaving the Congress government on shaky ground and the state in a state of uncertainty.

Trinamool Congress Leader Sheikh Shahjahan, Accused in Sandeshkhali Case, Finally Apprehended After 55 Days on the Run https://nacionstory.com/2024/02/29/trinamool-congress-leader-sheikh-shahjahan-accused-in-sandeshkhali-case-finally-apprehended-after-55-days-on-the-run/ https://nacionstory.com/2024/02/29/trinamool-congress-leader-sheikh-shahjahan-accused-in-sandeshkhali-case-finally-apprehended-after-55-days-on-the-run/#respond Thu, 29 Feb 2024 06:24:20 +0000 https://nacionstory.com/?p=1821 In a significant development, Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan, the main accused in the Sandeshkhali case, has been arrested by a special Bengal police team after 55 days of being on the run. The arrest follows a recent order from the Calcutta High Court Chief Justice to include Sheikh Shahjahan in the Sandeshkhali case.

Shahjahan and his associates have faced accusations of engaging in sexual atrocities on women and involvement in land grabbing in Sandeshkhali, a region in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district. The arrest took place around midnight, and Sheikh Shahjahan is now in 10-day police custody.

Sheikh Shahjahan, a central figure in the January 5, 2024, assault on ED officers, has been apprehended by West Bengal police after over a month on the run. South Bengal ADG Supratim Sarkar stated the case doesn’t involve Section 354 complaints, and Shahjahan will face the Basirhat court. Amid sexual assault allegations dating back two years, investigations, post February 7, 8, 9, require time for evidence gathering. The arrest follows a Calcutta High Court directive, heightening tensions in Sandeshkhali, drawing criticism from BJP’s Amit Malviya and impacting local legal and political dynamics.

South Bengal ADG Supratim Sarkar

Law enforcement officials had been monitoring Shahjahan’s activities for several days leading up to the arrest. The Calcutta High Court Chief Justice’s order on February 26 played a crucial role in expediting the arrest, stating, “There is no reason to not arrest him.”

The ruling Trinamool Congress welcomed the arrest, attributing it to the court’s clearance of hurdles and accusing the opposition of exploiting the earlier “embargo” on Shahjahan’s arrest. However, the BJP criticized the arrest, labeling it as scripted and alleging that Shahjahan was in the safe custody of the West Bengal Police.

Sandeshkhali had been witnessing widespread protests against Sheikh Shahjahan, with a section of women demanding justice for alleged atrocities committed by the TMC leader, including land grabbing and sexual assault. Shahjahan, who has been embroiled in multiple criminal cases, including the murder of three BJP workers in 2019, had been on the run since January 5.

The Enforcement Directorate had also accused Sheikh Shahjahan of money laundering in ration and land scams, with additional allegations of violence against power department employees in West Bengal, resulting in an FIR filed against him.

The BJP had accused the Mamata Banerjee government of shielding Sheikh Shahjahan after a mob of his supporters attacked an Enforcement Directorate team conducting raids against him in a corruption case. The arrest is anticipated to have a significant impact on the political landscape in the region, as the legal proceedings against Shahjahan unfold.

Fuel Crisis Grips Punjab Amid Ongoing Farmers’ Protest https://nacionstory.com/2024/02/28/fuel-crisis-grips-punjab-amid-ongoing-farmers-protest/ https://nacionstory.com/2024/02/28/fuel-crisis-grips-punjab-amid-ongoing-farmers-protest/#respond Wed, 28 Feb 2024 08:33:44 +0000 https://nacionstory.com/?p=1813 The Punjab-Haryana border has become the epicenter of a fuel crisis as chaotic situations have led to a significant reduction in diesel and gas dispatches to Punjab. According to news agency ANI, diesel dispatches have been slashed by 50 per cent, while gas dispatches have seen a 20 per cent reduction. The ongoing farmers’ protest, particularly the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march, has resulted in roadblocks and safety concerns, severely impacting fuel supplies in both Haryana and Punjab.

The farmers, hailing from Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, have been protesting since February 13, demanding the implementation of the Swaminathan report and legislation for the minimum support price (MSP) and procurement prices, among other issues. Their agitation has led to disruptions in fuel supply chains, causing widespread concern among the general public.

The situation escalated on February 22 when petroleum dealers across Punjab announced a statewide shutdown of petrol pumps and fuel stations. This move was in response to their demand for an increase in commission. The announcement prompted panic buying, with long queues forming outside fuel stations in cities like Ludhiana. Additionally, the dealers decided not to purchase fuel from oil companies on February 15, further exacerbating the fuel shortage.

Petroleum dealers in Punjab shut down pumps, demanding higher commission, causing panic buying and fuel shortage

The fuel crisis has had a profound impact on daily life in Punjab. Transportation, agriculture, and other sectors heavily reliant on fuel have been severely affected. The general public is facing difficulties in accessing fuel for their vehicles and essential needs, leading to frustration and inconvenience.

The Punjab government has taken note of the situation and is working to address the crisis. Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has assured that the government is in touch with oil companies and is exploring all possible solutions to resolve the issue. He has also urged the central government to intervene and provide relief to the people of Punjab.

In the meantime, the farmers’ protest continues, with no immediate resolution in sight. The standoff between the farmers and the government has led to a stalemate, with both sides unwilling to back down.
