PM Modi Lays Foundation Stone for International Cricket Stadium in Varanasi, Unveils Grand Vision for Purvanchal’s Sporting Future

With a strategic vision to boost sports in the region, this stadium is poised to have a far-reaching impact.
According to the Press Trust of India (PTI), PM Modi’s visit also included the inauguration of 16 newly constructed Atal Residential Schools in the city, reinforcing his commitment to improving educational facilities. The Prime Minister arrived in Varanasi by air at 1.30 pm and continued his eventful day.
Later in the day, PM Modi made his way to the Rudraksh Centre to inaugurate another 16 Atal Residential Schools, underscoring the importance of education in the region.
During his address at the rally, PM Modi expressed his joy at visiting Varanasi once more, describing the city’s significance as unparalleled. He also took pride in India’s recent success in space exploration, congratulating the country on Chandrayaan-3’s achievement.
PM Modi emphasized the positive impact of the new international cricket stadium, calling it a blessing for the youth of Purvanchal. He highlighted how cricket connects India with the world, attracting new countries to the sport. He also noted that the stadium in the city of ‘Mahadev’ would be dedicated to Lord Shiva, benefiting local athletes and making Varanasi a prominent sports destination in the Purvanchal region.
The Prime Minister’s address underscored the changing attitude towards sports in India and the government’s unwavering support for athletes at every level.
The Varanasi international cricket stadium, estimated at a cost of Rs 330 crore, will accommodate approximately 30,000 spectators. Its distinctive design, inspired by the essence of Kashi, will feature crescent-shaped roof covers, trident-shaped floodlights, and structures resembling bel leaves and a ‘damru’. The spectator’s gallery will pay homage to the iconic ghats of Varanasi.
Situated near the Ring Road in the Rajatalab area, this state-of-the-art stadium is expected to be ready by December 2025. It promises to be a landmark facility not only for sports enthusiasts but also for the cultural heritage of Varanasi, blending modernity with the city’s rich traditions.
