Manipur Horror continues: CBI to intervene over two Meitei teen killings, women staged protest

The horrific crimes in Manipur took another ugly turn with the brutal killing of two youngsters belonging to the Meitei community aged seventeen and twenty allegedly by the armed men. The north-eastern state of India, Manipur, continues to boil with the fresh protests staged by the women forming a human chain urging for peace in the state and clashes between the forces and students, attracting the investigation by the Special Director Ajay Bhatnagar of CBI, who took a special flight with other officials on Wednesday.

 

Few days ago it was with the announcement by the chief minister of Manipur –N Biren Singh that the ban on the internet was lifted after month’s chaos and cut off. But the images of the two girl students, being surfaced on the social media, has ignited the series of rage and protests by the students and the women in large numbers, leading to another clash between the forces and the civilians. The ban on the internet is back this morning (27/9/2023) till 1st of October 2023 with three days shutting of all the schools including private, government, aided, as the clashes concluded with bomb shelling, tear gas and grave injuries sustained by the students who were protesting against the violence.

It was during the peak of the ethnic violence in Manipur, which started taking shaping in the month of early May 2023 that the incident rolled with the kidnapping of the two girls allegedly by the Kuki militants. The images which are going viral right now on various platforms shows the two girls sitting in the backdrop of the green grassland on one hand and their bodies on the other hand, inviting the rage of every Indian.

Even though the Chief Minister- N Biren Singh has assured a swift action will be taken against all those involved in the abduction and murdering of the two girls and stated that both center and state is working to bring back the normalcy in the state, the opposition is demanding the direct involvement of the Prime minister and a cease to the violence which the state has been witnessing. It is quite evident that even after deploying over 1,700 officers the situation in the state is still hard to control spare the question of building harmonious connect between the communities as well as between the civilians and the forces.

The demonstration led by the women demanded peace building initiatives and justice in the state where the situation is no better even after five months of continuous chaos and over 150 civilians have lost their lives. In addition to the case of two students- Hijam Linthoingambi and Phijam Hemit who were allegedly kidnapped on 6th of july 2023, another horror of torture and killing of Irengbam Chingkheinganba and his cousin Sagolshem Ngaleiba have also grabbed the eyes of International communities. With the intervention of CBI to probe the hopes of impartial investigation and Justice have been installed in the hearts of the citizens.
