PM’s focus on economic cooperation and security

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, China’s Xi Jinping, Brazil’s Luiz Lula da Silva, and leaders of more than 50 countries are expected to attend. This will be PM Modi’s first in-person BRICS summit after 2019. Russian President Vladimir Putin will also join the conference through video conferencing.
PM can speak on digital transformation in India.

Modi will address the business forum on Tuesday, where he is expected to underline the importance of BRICS at a time when the world is still grappling with the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic and the Ukraine war. The PM may also list some of the achievements of his government, including digital transformation, in his address.

Can meet Chinese President Xi Jinping

Narendra Modi will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping for the first time as the leaders meet on the summit’s first day. However, officially the meeting of the two leaders has yet to come to the fore. Either side has not ruled out the meeting, as the two leaders will be together in Johannesburg for about 48 hours. Will also insist on ending the Russia-Ukraine war

PM Modi may also insist on ending the Russia-Ukraine war immediately and resolving it through dialogue and diplomacy. At the same time, the PM can also consider raising the issue of terrorism in the presence of Xi Jinping.
There will also be an emphasis on increasing membership.

BRICS has five members: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Twenty-two countries want to join, but India and Brazil are cautious due to concerns about China’s dominance and upsetting Western nations.
